The healing magic of Peaches
It’s gettin’ hot in here so eat some peaches!! Peaches can help rekindle loss of appetite due to excess heat, which is basically everyone right now.
But why are you not as hungry in the Summertime? To keep your body cool in the Sun and heat of Summer, your body sends it’s agni, or digestive fire, to the skin to keep your body cool. That means there’s less digestive fire in your belly, which is why many of us tend to feel less hungry. This is especially true at the height of the day’s heat in the early afternoon hours.
No wonder peaches come into season in the middle of Summer! Nature gives us what we need, and right now that’s peaches.
Try eating a fresh peach in the middle of the day. They’re are perfect as they are, so grab a peace and lean over the kitchen sink and take a bite. Yumm! Drip drip goes the peach juice down your arm. That’s how you know they’re ripe and ready to eat.
Ever tried to eat a peach when it wasn’t ripe or in season? It’s hard and sour and tough on the digestive system.
Get them as local and fresh as possible and wait until their ripe. A perfectly ripe peach is sweet which helps cool pitta, or the fire-y-ness you feel on a hot Summer day.
I made my first-ever Peach Pie from some local Michigan peaches. Hardest part is waiting for it to cool enough to eat it.
Nothing is forever. Enjoy the season.
Happy Peach season! 🍑
