Happy Fire Cider Season!
It’s time! Fire Cider time!
Fill a ball jar with lots of herbal goodness, pour in apple cider vinegar, cover it, and wait for the magic potion to be ready in about 6 weeks - which is early November. By that time, you’ll be glad you have this herbal medicine at the ready.
Packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, it can help prevent a bug and keep you feeling strong through the cooler months. Take a spoonful as soon as you feel something coming on. Or mix it ip in a dressing for roasted veggies or chicken. It’s soooo delicious!
Here are my herbs of choice:
-rosemary
-thyme
-mint
-pepper (use a few whole peppercorns or some red pepper flakes, or both)
-hibiscus
-elderberry
-ginger
-orange peel
-garlic
-onion
Feel free to mix in your favorite herbs. Many fire cider recipes also add horse radish, but I’m allergic so I leave it out. This stuff already packs a punch!
Be sure to use a layer of wax paper over your jar before you put on the lid (as seen in the picture above). Otherwise the vinegar will oxidize the metal lid.
Watch this video when you’re ready to strain and use your fire cider. I share a tasty Fire Cider Vinaigrette recipe that’s wonderful over roasted seasonal vegetables.
