Meditation and your morning coffee

Meditation should be like your morning coffee or tea - something you look forward to, feel like you can’t live without, and enjoy every minute of.

If it’s not, you might be using a meditation technique that doesn’t work for you.

A daily meditation practice is something you want to look forward to, and is easier than you might imagine.

Think of a time in your day when you naturally fall into a relaxed state. Are you cooking? Petting your dog? Or riding your bike down a hill? Do you find yourself slipping into a state where you have no sense of time? This is your natural meditative state.

My approach to meditation is one that works for modern householders. People who live in the world, with jobs, responsibilities, families, pets. People like you and me, not monks living in the Himalayas.

Meditation techniques are a bit like clothes. The same shirt looks and feels different on a different person. And some days, even your favorite shirt doesn’t seem to fit right. In order to find out what works, you need to try on different techniques. And have a few in your back pocket for different days or occasions.
